Our Mission

To produce professionals in the field of speech and language therapy who are able to provide diagnose, give treatment and preventions to those who are suffering with speech and language impairments. These professionals will be equipped with the skills to deal with relevant problems in different settings like, schools, clinics and rehabilitation centers

Objectives

  • To prepare students to meet the current professional knowledge and skills in the field of Speech and Language Therapy
  • To develop the professional preparation of future Speech and Language Therapist by offering students expertise in the cognitive, linguistic and cultural aspects of diverse children and adults with language disorders.
  • To give students a wide range of clinical practicum experiences to meet the professional requirement in the employment market.
  • To ensure that students are prepared in emerging clinical areas and evidence-based practice.
  • To give students knowledge and opportunities to foster a life-long commitment to professional development.

Introduction

Speech is a neuromuscular process of producing sounds, which is a complex process. Speech and language pathology Therapy is the study of disorders that affect a person‟s speech language, cognition, voice swallowing (dysphagia). Communication includes speech production and fluency, language, cognition, voice, resonance and hearing. Swallowing includes all aspects of swallowing, including related feeding behaviors. Speech and Language Therapists is defined as the professional who engages in professional practice    in    the    areas    of    communication    and     swallowing     across     the life span. Communication and swallowing are broad terms encompassing many facets of function. Speech and language Pathologists and Therapists address the problems of speech production, vocal production, swallowing difficulties and language through speech Therapy in a variety of contexts including schools, hospitals etc.

The curriculum of this diploma is designed to meet the professional knowledge and skills in the field of Speech and Language Therapy. The innovative and research-informed curriculum includes a variety of courses to cover the foundations and advanced topics of speech and language therapy including both the social and clinical context of human communication. The program consists of 30 credit hours courses.

Program’s Summary

Admission Requirement: Admission will be in line with UE admission criteria that is:
  1. Admission will be on merit.
  2. MA Special Education (min. 2nd Division), or
  3. M.Ed. Special Education (min. 2nd Division), or
  4. M.Sc. Psychology (min. 2nd Division), or B.S Psychology
          5.  B.Ed./ B.S.  Hons. in Special Education
MA/MSc along with Teaching of Deaf Diploma with minimum 2nd division
Age Limit: N/A
Assessment & Examination: The performance of the students registered in PGD ASD program shall be assessed as per the University’s rules and     regulations.
Minimum Requirements    As described by Assessment and Examination regulation, 2016
for the grant of diploma:    (revised) of UE Lahore.

The medium of instruction and examination shall be ENGLISH except Islamic Studies which is Urdu. For languages (e.g. Arabic), the medium of instruction and examination shall be that language.
