OUR HISTORY

That was the motto of the ring leader Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed, an educationist. In 1990, Dr. Iftikhar established a school for Hearing impaired children called “Pearls Centre” in Lahore. After that he resided over Faisalabad and found that there was only one school for HIC; which is not sufficient. He felt the utmost need of Special education institutes. In 1992 he started his work at home level, and with the collaboration of his companions, friends, colleagues of different professions i.e, Doctors, Lawyers, Social workers, Govt. officers, Public and Businessmen he formed a society named “Tanzeem-al-lissan” in 1995. It was not impossible but quite difficult task. His friends welcomed his idea and promised to shoulder the task besides him, and it became a team to move the mountain. In spite of fewer facilities this organization got fame due to endless efforts.

Tanzeem-al-Lissan is a non-government, nonpolitical voluntary organization formed in 1995, and since its inception is actively engaged in rehabilitation of poor disabled children through provision of special education to Hearing impaired and rehabilitative services to Mentally Retarded and physically handicapped.

It was in July 1996 when the organization started activities in an organized manner by establishing “Danish Center” for Hearing impaired children with 6 kids in a rented building in Gulshan Colony Shaheedan Road, Faisalabad.

In the year 1998, Tanzeem-al-Lissan expanded its program to organize and establish another center named” Al-Masoom Center” for rehabilitation of mentally & emotionally handicapped children. This was the only Centre in Faisalabad providing services to intellectually impaired children as no such other Centre either by the Government or private sector was available.

It was in the beginning of 1999 when the Tanzeem further expanded its activities by developing community-based outreach services in the rural areas. In the beginning 5 Sehara Center were established in different villages like Chak No, 2 JB, Chak. No.58 JB, Chak No. 67 JB Chak No. 103 JB and Chak No. 229 RB under the name of “SEHARA (Special Education for Hearing impaired in Accessible Rural Area”). In 2001 after conducting a detailed survey, the Tanzeem had been able to establish 10 more SEHARA centers in the catchments area like Chak Jhumra, Dijkot, Khurriawala, Sammundr, Aminpur, Phalor, Satiana, Shahkot, Tandlianwala, and Sangla Hill, thereby having a total of 15 SEHARA centers.

“Al-Lissan” (an organ of special children) which is a quarterly magazine initiated in April; 2000, In addition to the performance of the Tanzeem’s own centers, articles related to problems of special children are published so that the affected families can get information for solutions of their children’s problems at home. This magazine is being provided free of cost to parents of special children, Special education institutions and Doctor’s Clinics.

In 2002, Tanzeem has also started a community-based rehabilitation (CBR) programme “Dastak” in five areas Jinnah Colony, Gobind pura, Gurunanak pura, Muhammad pura and Dhobi Ghat Faisalabad.

In June 2003, four “physiotherapy centers” were established for CP and physically handicapped, one at Al-Masoom center Dhobi Ghat Faisalabad, and others at Sammundri, Tandlianwala and Sangla Hill.

To Compete the modern IT age “Computer Training Center” had been established for Physically handicapped, hearing impaired and intellectually challenged in 2004, at Danish and Al-Masoom center Dhobi Ghat Faisalabad.

Tanzeem has also established an “Audiology Clinic” with latest equipment i.e., ABR. In this clinic audiologist not only assesses the admitted student but also perform Audiometry and Tympanometry to outsider’s referred by different doctors. After assessment the hearing aids are provided free to the needy and non-affording patients.

Basic aim of Tanzeem-al-lissan is to rehabilitate the special persons by using their in born skills for which children are given vocational training so that they could play active role in the society. For this purpose, “7 Vocational Training Centers” were established in 2005 for Hearing impaired and Physically Disabled girls and women one at Danish center and others in Sehara centers.

In 2005, counselling sessions were initiated in all centers with the parents regarding their child problems by clinical Psychologists. “Parents Training Program” is being arranged for last many years. For this purpose, professionals are invited to guide the parents of special children. On first Friday of every month parents’ meetings are also being arranged in each center.

As explained earlier, besides the regular on-going services, In 2006, the Tanzeem has established a Speech Centre supervised by qualified Psycho Speech Therapists, where adults and children are treated in Language Disorders (syntactic and Symantec disorders) Articulation Disorders (disorders related to phonemes), Fluency Disorders. (Associated with interrupted flow of speech), Stammering, Stuttering, Cluttering syndrome Voice Disorders, Aphonia, Dysphonia, Low soft voice syndrome, Hoarseness, Breathy voice, Resonance Disorder, Hyper nasality, Hypo nasality Cul-De-Sac resonance disorder and Delayed Speech.

Tanzeem-al-Lissan where established institutions for the rehabilitation of special persons, since 2006, hearing aids, wheelchairs and tricycles are also provided free of charge to the deserving special persons for “Individual Rehabilitation” with the financial support of the philanthropists.

In 2008, Tanzeem-al-lissan extended its educational services where Danish Center for heaing impaired upgraded up to Danish College for intermediate/ post matric diploma in special education

In 2009, A Ladies’ Gym was established at main campus Tanzemm-al-lissan adjacent to the Physiotherapy Center for veiled women and children with minor physically disability of the area,

To meet the requirements of college and the educational need of students and staff a Library and Resource center has been established at Main Campus Tanzeem-al-lissan in 2010. More than 4000 books of different topics are available in library. Library is equipped with computers, Wi-Fi and multimedia etc.

In 2011, Danish Center was upgraded to Danish Degree College of Special Education for Degree classes of hearing impaired which is affiliated with GC University Faisalabad.

In 2012, to make skillful and economically self-sufficient, a vocational & skill training program (Hunnar Gah) has been established at Main Campus Dhobi Ghat, which is regularly functioning wherein hearing impaired & physically disabled boys & girls are trained in different trades besides basic education.

In Al-Masoom Center a separate set up was established for CP and Physically Challenged Children in 2013, Clinical psychologists, Speech therapists, Special Educationist and Vocational teacher provide their expertise in this field.

In September 2014.  Food and Nutrition always remains a serious problem for developing contourites. Imbalanced nutritional intake causes a number of health malnutrition disorders. So, keeping in view all these facts, Tanzeem-al-Lissan has started a Nutritional Programme

There is a shortage of trained individuals in Pakistan in the field of Speech and Language Therapy, hence the needs of large population are not met. In 2015, first time in Faisalabad Post Graduate Diploma in Speech and Language Therapy has been launched at Danish Degree College of Special Education.

In October 2016, a Shelter workshop has been started with cooperation of Hosiery Association of Faisalabad to provide job training and self-enrichment programme for female students in a safe environment at Danish College.

In December 2016, Tanzeem-al-Lissan started “Dar-ul-Sakoon” a psychological therapy center for adults under a team of trained clinical Psychologists. Basic aimof Dar-ul-Sakoon is to provide psychological services to adults with emotional & behavioral disturbance.

In 2017, Danish Degree College has been up graded up to Post Graduate level and has got affiliation from GC University Faisalabad of five new disciplines, BS Speech and Language Therapy, DPT, MA English Linguistic and Literature, MSc Applied Psychology and MA Fine Arts (Special) for Hearing impaired.

By the increase in the number of admitted special children, the existing infrastructure has become inadequate and to provide educational and rehabilitative facilities to more children and make maximum use of the campus, Speech therapy, Individual sessions, Shelter workshops and various college courses are started in the Second Shift from September 2018.

In 2019, Danish Degree College has extended its services and got affiliation of B.Ed (Hon) Special Education and MA Special Education from University of Education Lahore.

In 2020, Due to the significant increase in the number of autistic children, a separate Institute for Rehabilitation of Autism (IFRA) has been established in the main campus of Tanzeem. In which all the latest available tools / methods are used for the rehabilitation of autistic children.

In 2021, Danish Degree College has also started B.Ed 1.5 years (Secondary) and got affiliation from University of Education Lahore.

The number of children affected by autism is increasing day by day in our beloved country and there are only a few autism specialists in Pakistan. In order to prepare autistic specialists. In October 2022, Tanzeem-al-Lissan has launched PGD Autism Spectrum Disorder at Danish Degree College, whose graduates will be able to work with autistic children.

Tanzeem-al-Lissan has planned to develop a community-based program with special emphasis on early diagnosis and prevention of psychological disorders, promotion of literacy creating awareness on child care and providing general health facilities care to these backward localities.

Being a non-profit organization, Tanzeem-al-Lissan is providing special educational services to more than 1400 special students of urban & rural area and more than 70% gets free education. Institutes are carried out through subsidized affordable tuition contribution paying students, grants from donor & donations from individual & corporate sector.

Besides academic services, students are engaged in number of sports and cultural activities. We at the institute organize different sports events, recreational programs, and music classes. The cultural/recreational events are the regular part of our academic activities during the whole year.
