Introduction

The Associate Degree in Education (ADE) program has been designed in line with UE vision to prepare academically, intellectually and socially vibrant educational leaders and teachers. This Program has all the elements and strengths of first 2-years (first 4 semesters) of the “Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)”.

The professional education needs lifetime commitment and intensive training (generally for four years such as the engineering and medical). Keeping the standard of professional education in view, a new ADE 2-year program (which is equivalent to first 2 years of the 4- Year “Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.)” program) is introduced and presented in the subsequent pages. This program offers in-depth knowledge, and intensive training in required professional skills to the prospective teachers, alongside the development of their professional attitude. This program fully appreciates the National Professional Standards for Teachers in Pakistan, and the world’s best practices for the development of teacher to prepare the dynamic teachers for the coming times.

A classroom teacher needs to be competent in the content areas as well as in teaching strategies in order to ensure expected student learning outcomes. Hence, a blend of content and pedagogical courses has been provided in the scheme of study to prepare prospective teachers as professionals in education.

In addition, the program is based on the principal of choice and flexibility, as the program offers a range of Social and Natural Science disciplines, so that students may choose disciplines of their interest.

The vision of ADSE Program is to prepare dynamic leaders and practitioners in teaching, research and management havin content excellence, pedagogical competence, commitment and integrity who may ensure quality and sustainable development at all tiers and sectors of education.

To produce graduates who provide professional educational services to the individuals having Special Educational Needs in making them independent in their pastimes and social life.

Program Objectives

The objectives of the ADSE Program are in accordance with the university of Education goals and are focused to:

The program has the following primary objectives:

  1. To enhance the standard of special educational services in Pakistan through producing educators, researchers, consultants, and other professionals who can promote the application of evidence-based practices to the service of individuals having special

educational needs.

  • To produce graduates who are equipped with knowledge, skills and expertise to work with individuals having special educational needs in both inclusive and special environment.
  • To prepare a new generation of special educationists whose central concern is to contribute the educational and emotional well-being of children and adolescents having special educational needs.
  • To produce graduates who can be productive in producing new knowledge in the field through research as well as in their academic and professional career.

Medium of Instruction and Examination

The medium of instruction and examination shall be ENGLISH except Islamic Studies which is Urdu. For languages (e.g., Arabic), the medium of instruction and examination

shall be that language.

Admission Requirements

A Secondary School Certificate or equivalent along with other admission terms and condition of the University of Education, Lahore.

Degree Requirements

The ADSE Program is comprised of four semesters. The students will be awarded the degree on completion of all the requirements that are mentioned in the assessment and examination regulations of the University of Education, Lahore.

Career opportunities:

The holders of this degree are able to get admission in the 5th semester of “B.Ed. (Hons) Special Education”.

The program is in accordance with the national and international standards with reference to the Pedagogy, Assessment, Teaching Practice, and number of Credit Hours. Therefore, holders of this degree are able to secure admission in Foreign Universities in the relevant degree programs where Foreign Universities allow. Since, ADSE is a 14-years qualification, so this degree holder can apply for any post requiring 14-years general qualification in national and international organizations.

Teaching and Assessment Strategies

Faculty members are required to assess the students by following the University assessment and examination policy in true letter and spirit. However, faculty members can use different assessment techniques such as presentation, assignment, project, portfolio, action research, quiz, and informal assessment to achieve higher order learning according to the Bloom’s Taxonomy to achieve the program objectives.

During teaching, faculty members are required to focus the constructivist approaches/student- centered approaches such as group work, project method, problem- solving, critical thinking, reflective thinking, self-directed learning, discussion, fieldwork, case studies, creativity, inquiry-based learning to achieve the higher order learning according to Bloom’s Taxonomy to achieve the program objective

Internship is like teaching practice. Students will go to school and will observe what the regular teacher is doing. Further, the students will assist the regular teacher in all the activities being performed by the regular teacher.
